Berat Kandili is considered one of the most distinguished nights in the period of three months that begins on December 21 in the Islamic calendar, and this year it coincides with the night of the 15th of Sha'ban. In Islam, berat means purification from sins and attaining divine forgiveness and mercy.

The hadith of Prophet Muhammad stating, “On the night of the 15th of Sha'ban, spend that night in worship…” emphasizes the importance of spending this night engaging in worship and prayers. It is believed that on this blessed night, God's mercy envelops the earth, and He continuously calls out to His servants, “Is there anyone who will repent, so that I may accept his repentance?”.

The President of Religious Affairs Safi Arpaguş, in his message published for Berat Kandili, stated, “We should sincerely ask our Lord for forgiveness for the mistakes and sins that burden our hearts.” Arpaguş emphasized that believers should turn to their Lord and thoroughly self-reflect on their lives during this night. This night is an opportunity to remember the vast blessings that Allah has bestowed upon His servants.

A Time for Renewal in the Three Months

Ömer Tiryaki, a specialist in the High Council of Religious Affairs, stated that the three months offer a chance for renewal in terms of faith and worship for Muslims. He mentioned the great importance of performing acts of worship, particularly fasting during the day of Berat Kandili. Tiryaki expressed that these periods require “increased regular worship and social solidarity.”
