Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, who is in the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia for the Southeastern European Cooperation Process (SEEC) Countries Transport Ministers Conference, evaluated the results of the 5G tender. Uraloğlu stated that "our ears were in Turkey," indicating that an important process was experienced in terms of both local investment and competition.
Minister Uraloğlu noted that the tender concluded with results that met expectations. The tender, which started with a base price of 2 billion 125 million dollars, ended with a bid of 2 billion 945 million dollars. Including VAT, our result reached 3 billion 534 million dollars. In this case, we achieved a success above the figures we expected,” he said.
Sharing details about the bids received as a result of the tender, Uraloğlu stated that three operators collectively submitted a bid of 2 billion 945 million dollars. He also mentioned that this amount would be paid by the winners in three equal installments and announced that 5G services would begin to be offered as of April 1, 2026.
Uraloğlu emphasized that local production would be encouraged in 5G infrastructure, stating, “There will be an obligation to use up to 60% local products and up to 30% national communication products.” Thus, alongside the advantages provided by 5G, national technology production will also be supported.
Finally, addressing the impacts of 5G technology on daily life and business practices, Uraloğlu stated, “With 5G, mobile internet speeds will see an increase of up to 10 times compared to 4.5G. Significant changes will occur in many areas, such as fully autonomous driving, remote surgery, and smart agriculture.”
