Amazom.com (AMZN) has taken another significant step to minimize food waste. The company has formed a strategic partnership with Mill Industries to reduce food waste in Whole Foods Market stores. This collaboration aims to provide pioneering and innovative solutions to the issue of food waste.

Collaboration with Mill's Innovative Technology

At the heart of this partnership is Mill's automated and high-capacity food recycling system, known as Mill Commercial. Whole Foods plans to be the first user of this system to manage food waste more efficiently. Starting in 2027, fruit and vegetable waste generated from back-office operations will be transformed into a nutrient-rich component for chicken feed thanks to the technology developed by Mill. This transformation will enable Whole Foods to create a more sustainable supply chain by supporting its private label egg suppliers.

Support from the Climate Pledge Fund

Additionally, Mill aims to scale this technology further with investments from Amazon's Climate Pledge Fund. This initiative is set to be the first example of an in-store food waste conversion system in the grocery sector, offering a closed-loop solution that allows suppliers to utilize more sustainable methods.
