Friedrich Merz was welcomed at Ankara Esenboğa Airport by Germany's Ambassador to Turkey Sibylle Katharina Sorg. In his post, Merz expressed that the relationships with Turkey have a multifaceted and dynamic structure and stated that he is in Turkey to take steps aimed at increasing this cooperation.
The German Chancellor and President Erdoğan are scheduled to meet on Thursday at the Presidential Palace. It is expected that important issues such as Turkish-German relations, Turkey's European Union (EU) membership process, and the enhancement of bilateral cooperation between the two countries will be addressed.
Merz stated in a post on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), "We have special and different dynamic relations with Turkey. I want to further expand our close cooperation in the fields of foreign and security policy, migration, energy, and trade." These statements are seen as a promising development for both sides in terms of international relations.
