The U.S. Department of Labor has unexpectedly shared important data regarding the increase in unemployment benefit applications during the federal government shutdown process.
As of the week ending October 18, the number of individuals filing for unemployment benefits for the first time has reached 232,000. This figure shows an increase from the 219,000 applications recorded in the week ending September 20.
The number of continuing unemployment benefit applications has also increased from the previous week, reaching 1.957 million. The number of individuals applying for unemployment benefits was recorded at 1.947 million in the previous week.
The 43-day government shutdown, which ended on November 12, negatively affected the publication of economic data and created uncertainty. During this process, the increase in unemployment data is considered an important indicator in the economic recovery process.
