The Green Economy Transition Project, carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Technology of Turkey and the European Union (EU), is being implemented with a total budget of 7 million euros. This project aims to reduce carbon and water footprints in the ready-to-wear, textile, chemicals, and logistics sectors.
According to a statement from the Istanbul Ready-to-Wear and Apparel Exporters' Association (İHKİB), the three-year implementation period of the project has officially started. Mustafa Gültepe, President of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) and İHKİB, stated that twin transformation will be an important factor in the future competitive landscape. Gültepe expressed that various projects are being developed in this regard with several export associations.
Gültepe also noted that İHKİB is providing permanent institutions to the sector through IPA projects and enhancing the competencies of existing participants. He stated that significant steps have been taken in the sector with projects like the Istanbul Fashion Academy (İMA) and the Digital Transformation Center.
In this project, where green transformation is at the center, the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters Union (İTKİB) will be the ultimate beneficiary, while İHKİB will serve as the executing institution. The project will be conducted in collaboration with TİM, İHKİB, Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters' Association (İTHİB), Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters' Association (İKMİB), and the International Transporters Association (UND).
Gültepe emphasized that the project will increase the capacity of firms to measure and reduce their carbon and water footprints, saying, "With this project, which is the most comprehensive study in our country in this field, we will enhance the competitiveness of our firms. Thus, we will implement some transformation headings in the Ready-to-Wear Sector Sustainability Strategy Action Plan."
Gültepe added that he believes this project will make a significant contribution to the green transformation of the stakeholder sectors and the transition to a circular economy.
