European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the 20th sanction package to be imposed on Russia will be announced "very soon".
Von der Leyen stated in a social media post that she spoke on the phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ahead of the peace negotiations scheduled for February 4-5.
Expressing that Europe's supportive efforts towards Ukraine will continue, von der Leyen stated: "As we approach the fourth year of the brutal war against Ukraine, Russia is doubling down on war crimes and continues to attack civilian infrastructure and homes."
Von der Leyen announced that efforts are being made alongside Washington and Kiev to prepare a "framework for prosperity" for Ukraine's reconstruction. In this context, it is reported that the U.S. and the EU are working on a plan involving a commitment to invest $800 billion in the Ukrainian economy.
Providing more information about the 20th sanction package against Russia, von der Leyen said, "The purpose of this package is related to increasing pressure to bring Russia back to the negotiating table with a genuine intention for peace."
