Important Change from EPDK: Ethanol Blending Rate Decreased

The Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) made an important update regarding ethanol blending in gasoline types. The local ethanol blending rate for gasoline types for 2026 has been set at 1.5 percent. This change was formalized with the announcement published in the Official Gazette.

Blending Rate and Implementation Conditions

According to the new regulation, the ethanol rate produced from local agricultural products in gasoline types delivered through land tanker filling units by refinery license holders, as well as in the total of gasoline types delivered to dealers by distributor license holders within a calendar year, will be 1.5 percent for 2026. The previous rate was 2 percent.

Past Blending Rates

As a reminder, the bioethanol blending rate that started to be implemented in 2014 was updated to 2 percent as of January 2023. Domestic bioethanol allows for the evaluation of agricultural waste such as sugar beets and corn, and is an environmentally friendly product supported by rates between 5 to 10 percent in European Union countries, 10 percent in the USA, and 27 percent in Brazil.

Biodiesel Blending Regulation

EPDK has also implemented changes regarding the blending of biodiesel in diesel types, stating that the biodiesel blending obligation for refinery and distributor license holders will be considered a single obligation period for the years 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026.
