Excise Tax on Tobacco Products Decreased, Specific Tax Increased!

Excise Tax Regulation for Tobacco Products

With the new decision published in the Official Gazette, the excise tax rate (ÖTV) on tobacco products such as cigarettes and cigars has been reduced from %50 to %45. This change partially alleviates the tax burden on tobacco products.

Minimum Fixed ÖTV Amounts Changed

In the new regulation, the minimum fixed ÖTV amount has decreased from 2.1189 TL to 1.9750 TL with an approximate change of %6.9. On the other hand, fixed ÖTV amounts have been significantly increased from 12.1495 TL to 16.0000 TL.

Effective Date

This important regulation has come into effect as of today. This change is regarded as a constructive step for tobacco product users, and it is a matter of curiosity how it will affect the markets.
