Turkey is preparing to face climatic challenges in the early days of 2026. The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) has issued a map indicating an increased risk of agricultural frost throughout the country.
New Year's Eve (December 31) marks the beginning of agricultural frost events in Turkey. However, the real danger will be experienced on the nights connecting January 1 to January 2 and January 2 to January 3. During these dates, the effects of agricultural frost will be strongly felt across the country.
On January 3 and 4, the risk of severe and very severe agricultural frost will be more prominently felt in Turkey's central and eastern regions. Experts point out that although trees are currently asleep due to seasonal cycles, this poses a risk for winter vegetable and fruit cultivation.
Warnings are being issued regarding the need to protect crops that are still in the open field and gardens for winter vegetables and fruits. Additionally, precautions are recommended for greenhouses where covered cultivation is performed against sudden temperature drops. In particular, although the harvest of sugar beets is nearing completion, care must be taken to ensure that the %1-2 of unharvested beets do not get damaged.
Experts also indicate that protective nets should be placed on the surface of 'subsurface' crops such as turnips and carrots for their protection.
