Turkey is preparing to face climatic challenges in the early days of 2026. The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) has published a map indicating an increased risk of agricultural frost across the country.
New Year's Eve (December 31) marks the beginning of agricultural frost events in Turkey. However, the main danger will occur during the nights bridging January 1 to January 2 and January 2 to January 3. During these dates, the effects of agricultural frost will be felt strongly across the country.
On January 3 and 4, the risk of strong and very strong agricultural frost will be felt more acutely in Turkey's central and eastern regions. Although experts indicate that the trees are currently dormant due to seasonal cycles, it is emphasized that this poses a risk for winter vegetable and fruit cultivation.
Warnings are being issued regarding the need to protect winter vegetables and fruits still growing in open fields and gardens. Additionally, it is suggested that precautions be taken against sudden temperature drops in greenhouses where production is carried out under cover. Specifically, despite the fact that the harvest of sugar beets is nearing completion, care must be taken to ensure that the %1-2 of unharvested beets do not get damaged.
Experts also state that protective mesh should be placed on the surface of 'underground' crops such as radishes and carrots to safeguard them.
