Hilton has published the 2026 Trends Report, showing that purpose-driven vacations are radically changing travel plans. According to the research, easy access, cost advantages, and a tendency to prefer local destinations have increased the inclination of Turkish travelers to stay closer to home.
While 54% of Turkish travelers prefer domestic vacations, 65% choose destinations that are within five hours of their homes. Road trips are gaining considerable popularity due to cost savings and the ability to enjoy spontaneous experiences compared to air travel. Among the participants, 81% cited the key advantages of spontaneous travel, strengthening family bonds, and cost-effectiveness.
Familiar elements in travel experiences are gaining importance, especially among families with children; 73% evaluate comfort features that include playing games with their children and enjoying favorite foods, as well as accommodating pets. The increase in family-oriented vacation preferences indicates that Turkish families value traveling together far more than the destination itself.
While 61% of Turkish vacationers choose destinations to experience specific restaurants or cuisines, 72% enjoy exploring local markets abroad. Additionally, 68% of travelers consider acquiring new knowledge and skills as one of their primary goals.
Among individuals traveling for business, 75% emphasize that traveling together strengthens professional relationships. 53% of Turkish travelers aim to plan vacation trips with their romantic partners; this positions Turkey as the fourth highest globally.
89% of Turkish vacationers consider internet connectivity important during their travels, indicating that connectivity is an indispensable element of their journeys. The data obtained from the research is evaluated by Hilton's regional president, Simon Vincent CBE: "Today’s travelers want to reconnect with friends and family, explore new cultures, and enjoy different cuisines."
