US President Donald Trump addressed the press after the 56th World Economic Forum (WEF) meetings held in the Swiss town of Davos.
In response to a question from a CNN reporter regarding the Greenland framework agreement, Trump stated, "This is a long-term and final agreement." He did not provide details on the transition process of Greenland to the US, but responded "Infinite" when asked about the duration of the framework agreement. He described this situation as "the ultimate long-term agreement, and a fantastic solution for everyone."
Trump announced during his discussions in Davos that he and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte had established a framework for an agreement concerning Greenland. As part of this, he revealed that customs tariffs planned to be imposed on 8 European countries starting February 1 would be halted.
Making a post on his Truth Social account about the establishment of the new agreement, Trump stated, "We have outlined the framework for a future agreement regarding Greenland and the entire Arctic region. If this solution is implemented, it will be a fantastic solution for the US and all NATO countries."
Trump mentioned that further discussions would be held regarding the Iron Dome defense system related to Greenland, and that the process would be led by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Representative Steve Witkoff. Additionally, he announced that starting February 1, a 10% tariff would be imposed on goods imported from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland due to their anti-purchase stance on Greenland, with this rate increasing to 25% on June 1.
