US President Donald Trump, who met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, stated that they did not discuss Nvidia’s latest artificial intelligence Blackwell chips. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump expressed that semiconductors were discussed, but there was no conversation regarding Blackwell.

Previously, Trump had referred to the Blackwell chip as “super super” and indicated that he could discuss it with Xi. This statement contributed to Nvidia becoming the first company in history to reach a valuation of $5 trillion.

Tensions in US-China Relations

Access to Nvidia’s chips has been a significant factor in the tensions between the US and China. Washington has been implementing export controls on the sale of Nvidia’s most advanced artificial intelligence chips to China, aiming to restrict China’s technological advancement.

According to sources that confirmed previous information, Nvidia is working on a new chip that is more powerful than the H20 model for China. However, despite private Chinese companies wanting to purchase such a chip, the Chinese government has been displaying a cold attitude towards Nvidia and is supporting domestic chip manufacturers like Huawei.

Nvidia's Future Strategies

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that the company did not request an export license from the US to send its latest chips to China, as they do not feel the need due to the current situation in China. Huang said, “They clearly stated that they do not want Nvidia to be there right now.”

Additionally, many lawmakers from both the Democratic and Republican parties in the US have opposed Nvidia granting China more access to advanced chips like Blackwell. Trump, on the other hand, stated that he did not want to enter into a deep discussion on this issue, saying, “We are the arbiter or referee in this matter.”
