Trump Strengthens Trade Relations with China

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he would reconsider the tariffs imposed on goods imported from China if the country strengthens its fentanyl control mechanisms. In remarks to the press on the plane, Trump expressed his belief that the agreements reached with China were "great" and "long-lasting."

New Approaches in Fentanyl Control

Trump stated that, following his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, an agreement was reached to reduce the 20% tariff imposed due to the inadequacy of fentanyl controls to 10%. Trump added, "As soon as we see this, we will eliminate the remaining 10%,” emphasizing his optimism about positive developments.

Trade Dispute with Canada

In response to a question about ongoing trade negotiations with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump replied, "No, but I have a very good relationship with him. I love him very much, but what was done was wrong.” He also reminded that he decided to raise the tariff imposed on Canada by 10% due to advertising reasons.

Criticism Over Government Shutdown

In statements to reporters in Florida, Trump indicated that the primary factor causing the government shutdown was the Democrats. "The Democrats don’t know what they are doing, which is why the shutdown continues. I don’t know what their problem is. They’ve gone crazy,” he criticized.

Trump noted that he was always ready to meet with the Democrats, stating, "All they have to do is open the country. They can open the country; we will talk.” These remarks once again highlighted Trump’s determination to advocate for freedom in trade relations.
