The Ministry of Trade clarified the issue of "Mandatory service charge and the increase in menu prices" in a social media post. In the information provided through the ministry's official accounts, the depths of this issue have been addressed.
The statement noted that after the elimination of the service charge application, some businesses updated their prices, leading to unfair profits. It emphasized that strict measures would be taken against establishments that cause "unjust commercial practices" by adding the service charge to menu prices, especially those without a price list.
The ministry announced that the previous service fee of 16,800 TL has been updated to 16,500 TL, and that the difference is paid to employees. It was stated that these practices may violate the mandatory provisions of the laws.
It was stated that businesses found to be conducting unjust price increases would face an administrative fine of 1,860,170 TL. The Ministry of Trade has the authority to monitor businesses that cause unfair price increases and will stand against such practices.
Additionally, it was reported that there are violations of regulations due to deficiencies in price tags in alcoholic beverage menus. The Ministry of Trade aims to prevent illegal practices by closely monitoring such situations.
The ministry will not allow businesses to gain unjust profits and will ensure that the laws are applied properly.
