The Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated that tax restructuring disrupts tax compliance, saying, 'If taxpayers document their difficulties with balance sheets and income statements, we can consider installment plans. However, there is no new legal regulation on our agenda regarding this matter.'
Responding to questions from deputies in the Parliamentary Planning and Budget Commission, Şimşek emphasized that the reconstruction of the earthquake zone is a priority. He reported that so far, more than 3.6 trillion lira, or over 90 billion dollars, has been spent based on 2025 prices.
Şimşek also addressed criticisms regarding tax amnesty, stating, 'We do not find regulations that reward those who do not pay taxes to be correct. In previous regulations, there was no reduction in tax principals.'
The Minister highlighted the challenges faced in labor-intensive sectors such as textiles, furniture, leather, and apparel, emphasizing that additional measures will be taken.
Şimşek noted that the budget deficit had decreased from 5.1% last year to 4.7% and that this year's target is around 3.5-3.6%. He stated, 'Current account deficit has ceased to be a concern.'
Şimşek reported that in the last 2.5 years, 4,567 companies have applied for concordat, noting that the share of these companies in total turnover is only 0.89%.
Şimşek expressed a producer-friendly approach regarding taxes on high-alcohol beverages, stating that they are monitoring automatic transitions and will offer support for those needing to remain under simple procedures.
