Roszarubezhneft made a statement through the Russian news agency TASS, providing evaluations regarding the situation of its assets in Venezuela.
The company emphasized that its operations in Venezuela continue in accordance with national and international law. The statement said, "The company will continue its cooperation with international partners and will effectively manage resources related to joint oil production projects."
In its statement, Roszarubezhneft noted that all its assets in Venezuela were acquired considering market conditions. The company clearly stated, "All our assets in Venezuela belong to the Russian Federation."
In 2020, the assets of Russia's largest oil company, Rosneft, in Venezuela were transferred to the state-controlled Roszarubezhneft following US sanctions. US President Donald Trump had announced that Venezuela's oil assets would be managed by the US after the military intervention on January 3, when Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was detained.
