According to a recent public opinion poll conducted in Poland, 53.2% of Poles do not view the US as a reliable ally today. This result comes from a survey conducted by SW Research for the Rzeczpospolita newspaper, as reported by Poland’s public broadcaster TVP World.
Conducted on January 27-28, the survey included a total of 800 participants. When asked, "Do you see today's US as a reliable ally for Poland?", only 29.9% answered "yes", while 16.9% refrained from expressing an opinion.
Another interesting outcome of the survey is that the level of distrust towards the US among younger age groups remains below 50%. However, this distrust significantly increases among older age groups. Thus, it is observed that the perception of distrust has risen across all demographic groups regardless of gender, age, education, income, and place of residence.
The survey results emerged during a period when US efforts to detain Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and discussions regarding the control of Greenland are on the agenda. Poland, as a country with thousands of US troops stationed, is still considered a "model ally" by the US, yet the questioning of this trust is noteworthy.
