The holiday season in the U.S., a critical period encompassing November and December, is expected to achieve retail sales between $1.01 and $1.02 trillion this year. According to projections from the National Retail Federation (NRF), holiday sales are anticipated to surpass $1 trillion for the first time this year. Additionally, retail sales are forecasted to increase between 3.7% and 4.2% compared to last year.

The NRF announced that an estimated 265,000 to 365,000 temporary workers are expected to be hired to meet the increasing consumer demand during the holiday season. It's worth noting that this figure was 442,000 last year. The employment expectations for this year are said to be aligned with the slowdown in the general labor market.

However, many of the adverse economic impacts are considered temporary, and it is highlighted that an extended shutdown could amplify the severity of these effects.

Important days such as Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas lead up to New Year’s Eve on December 31, creating a crucial period for the retail sector.
