


The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) published the Higher Education Brain Drain Statistics bulletin for the year 2024. This year, the brain drain rate among higher education graduates remained unchanged at 2%, compared to 2023. In terms of gender distribution, the rates were 1.6% for women and 2.4% for men.
The brain drain rate for state university graduates was determined to be 1.7% in 2023, and this rate did not change in 2024. On the other hand, the brain drain rate among foundation university graduates decreased from 4.5% to 4.3% in 2024. Students receiving full scholarships in foundation universities had the highest brain drain rate at 8.3%.
The fields of higher education with the highest brain drain rates are as follows:
- Information and Communication Technologies: 6.7%
- Engineering, Manufacturing, and Construction: 4.4%
- Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Statistics: 2.7%
The countries most preferred by graduates who are experiencing brain drain are as follows:
- USA: 19.6%
- Germany: 19.4%
- United Kingdom: 11.3%
When examined based on the language of instruction, graduates who studied in French had the highest brain drain rate at 9.9%, followed by English, German, and Russian.
