Microsoft's Major Investment in the UAE

Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) aims to invest over $15 billion in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) over the next seven years. The primary focus of this investment will be the expansion of artificial intelligence data centers across the country.

Objectives of the Investment

According to the company's announcement, this broad investment, which will continue until 2029, was made possible by an export license obtained from the Trump administration. This license allowed the company to ship Nvidia's latest chips to the UAE.

Nvidia Chips and the Licensing Process

The U.S. government enabled Microsoft to send Nvidia's advanced chips to the UAE for the first time, allowing the tech giant to further expand its existing investments in the Gulf region. Microsoft President Brad Smith emphasized the significance of this process, stating in an interview with The Financial Times, “We are the first company to obtain a license under the Trump administration.”

Strategic Importance of the Project

The UAE has become a critical area in Washington's struggle for leadership in artificial intelligence against Beijing. In this context, Microsoft’s current project will play a vital role in providing the powerful Nvidia chips necessary for operating the latest artificial intelligence systems.

Brad Smith noted that the majority of their investments will be dedicated to the expansion of artificial intelligence data centers. "This investment is critical to meet the demand for artificial intelligence usage in the UAE," he stated.
