The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to María Corina Machado for her determination in defending the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and her efforts in the transition from dictatorship to democracy.

The Nobel Committee opted to focus on the difficult political conditions in Venezuela this year, despite numerous comments about the possibility of U.S. President Donald Trump receiving the peace prize.

Award Ceremony Details

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, worth 11 million Swedish kronor (approximately 1.2 million dollars), will be presented in Oslo on December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death.

María Corina Machado's Political Career

Born in Venezuela in 1967, María Corina Machado is a politician with a background in engineering and finance. In 1992, she founded the Atenea Foundation to help orphans.

In 2002, she became one of the founders of Sumate, an organization that supports free and fair elections. In 2010, she was elected to the National Assembly with a record number of votes, but was dismissed by the government in 2014. She currently leads the Vente Venezuela opposition party.
