Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro held his latest official diplomatic meeting with a Chinese delegation. This meeting took place at the Miraflores Palace in the capital city of Caracas. In addition to Maduro, the meeting was attended by Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, Foreign Minister Yvan Gil, and China’s Ambassador to Caracas Lan Hu.
This meeting between Maduro and the Chinese delegation was overshadowed by the sound of explosions heard in the capital within hours prior. According to local media reports, the meeting comes after planned U.S. attacks on the country. The Venezuelan government claims that the U.S. is responsible for the unfolding events and emphasizes that this process is related to instability in the region.
During the meeting, it was noted that more than 600 bilateral agreements between Venezuela and China were reviewed. Energy, trade, and infrastructure emerged as key areas of cooperation between the two countries. Additionally, it is reported that during this meeting, Maduro signed decrees declaring a 'state of emergency due to external intervention' across the country.
U.S. President Donald Trump claimed in a statement regarding the ongoing attacks in Venezuela that Maduro and his wife had been captured and removed from the country. This situation has once again drawn international attention to the political and economic crisis in Venezuela.
