The World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland, once again brought attention to French President Emmanuel Macron's glasses. The glasses that Macron wore during his speech became the subject of ridicule on social media, while shares of the Italian eyewear manufacturer iVision Tech saw a 28% increase. This increase raised the company's market value by approximately $4.1 million.
iVision Tech had acquired the French eyewear brand Henry Jullien in 2023. Macron's glasses are identified as the Pacific S 01 Double Gold model, with a sales price set at 659 euros, or around 33,577 TL. The production of this special model is quite limited; only 1,000 pieces are produced annually.
Henry Jullien has been manufacturing eyewear since 1921 and operates in a facility with only 10 employees. The glasses are hand-assembled and are produced using the more expensive and traditional gold filling technique instead of the common gold plating. This factor ensures that the model is positioned in the luxury segment.
iVision Tech CEO Stefano Fulchir stated that Macron received these glasses as a diplomatic gift during the G20 summit scheduled for 2024, and afterward, he purchased another pair for himself. Macron mentioned that he had to wear glasses due to an issue with his right eye.
Macron's glasses caused a significant reaction in the public arena. Social media users humorously compared the French leader to 'Top Gun', 'Cobra', and 'Terminator' films. Former President of the United States Donald Trump remarked, "I saw him yesterday with those beautiful sunglasses. What happened to him?" showing that he could not remain indifferent to the situation.
