Record Increase in Institutional Bitcoin Investments

Although the crypto market has gone through a year filled with records and sharp corrections, it appears that institutions have taken notable steps to increase their Bitcoin holdings in the third quarter of 2025. According to data shared by asset management firm Bitwise on platform X, the number of publicly traded companies holding Bitcoin saw an impressive increase of approximately 40% in just three months, reaching 172.

Companies' Bitcoin Holdings

As of September 30, these companies held a total of approximately $117 billion worth of 1.02 million Bitcoins. According to data provided by Bitcoin Treasuries, this figure increased to 1.02 million Bitcoins and $118.4 billion in the last two weeks. Bitget CEO Gracy Chen stated, "We are seeing a growing wave of publicly traded and private companies that are increasing their Bitcoin holdings as part of a broader strategic transformation. This situation provides inflation protection for many companies while also representing a long-term investment in digital assets."

Aggressive Accumulation by Public Companies

Research shows that publicly traded companies are among the most aggressive Bitcoin accumulators. These companies added 193,000 BTC to their balances with a quarterly increase of 20.68%. Notable institutional investors include familiar names like MicroStrategy (MSTR), which holds 640,031 Bitcoins, along with new names that have more than doubled their holdings. Last week, Bitcoin maintained its leading position with an inflow of $2.67 billion, while institutional interest remained strong.

Reasons for Increased Institutional Interest

According to CoinShares' report, digital asset investment products saw a total inflow of $3.17 billion last week, bringing the total inflow for the year to a record level of $48.7 billion. Gracy Chen stated that this momentum is tied to the supportive regulatory environment under the Trump administration, emphasizing the importance of the approval of the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserves and the reforms made to the listing standards for commodity-based trust shares by the SEC.

Long-Term Investment Opportunities

Peter Chung, President of Presto Research, noted that crypto assets are financed through securities issuance in public markets. As long as this interest continues, he predicts that institutions will continue their accumulation efforts. Additionally, Chung highlighted that institutions generally adopt a long-term strategy compared to individual investors, suggesting that the trade war between the U.S. and China is unlikely to influence such investment decisions.
