


A fire that broke out at a cosmetics factory located in Kocaeli's Dilovası district led to a major disaster on November 8. The number of fatalities rose to 7 with the passing of Tuncay Yıldız, who had been hospitalized with serious injuries. According to initial reports, the treatment Tuncay Yıldız received in intensive care was ineffective, and his death has cast a shadow of deep sorrow over the city.
While the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, the incident resulted in the deaths of 17-year-old Tuğba Taşdemir, her 15-year-old cousin Nisanur Taşdemir, as well as 15-year-old Cansu Esetoğlu, 52-year-old Hanım Gülek, 31-year-old Esma Gikan, and 59-year-old Şengül Yılmaz. A total of 7 people were injured as a result of the incident.
Following the fire, an investigation was launched, resulting in the detention of a total of 11 suspects. Among those detained, 7 individuals, including the owner of the workplace, K.O., were arrested, while Dilovası Deputy Mayor N.T., Zoning Director N.B., and zoning personnel C.T. were suspended from duty. The incident has left a deep impact on both the local community and society at large.
In the aftermath of the fire, the public is expressing its expectations of the authorities to enhance safety measures and prevent similar incidents. There is a strong emphasis on the need to reassess workplace safety standards.
