15 Thousand Illegal Live Mosquito Fish Seized in Istanbul

Illegal Fish Entry into Turkey Prevented

Istanbul Airport Customs Enforcement Officers seized 15,000 Ganbusia Mosquito fish that were attempted to be smuggled into Turkey during an x-ray scan of passengers' luggage. The relevant authorities quickly reported the situation through the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry.

Penalty for Foreign National

In connection with the incident, a Russian citizen was fined a total of 37,770 TL for failing to present the necessary documents. Approximately 15,000 live fish were protected under the Article 1380 of the Fisheries Law.

Inspections Continue for Biological Diversity

Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry stated that inspections are ongoing to monitor fishing activities and to protect aquatic products. A zero-tolerance policy is applied against such illegal activities that threaten biological diversity.
