On the first working day of the week, the traffic congestion in Istanbul is alarming. The congestion, especially noticeable in the morning hours, has reached up to 90%, causing adverse effects on the city’s main arteries and connection roads. The light rain has also made it quite difficult for drivers to advance their vehicles.
On the European Side, long vehicle queues have formed on the D-100 highway and TEM Motorway. Particularly around Mecidiyeköy, heavy traffic is observed in both the Ankara and Edirne directions. At the Avcılar location, there is bidirectional traffic congestion, while a notable increase in traffic has been reported between Beylikdüzü and Tüyap in the Edirne direction. On the TEM connection roads, drivers are struggling to progress in the Esenyurt and Bahçeşehir areas. Traffic has almost come to a standstill on the Ankara direction at the Firuzköy and Ispartakule locations.
Things are not looking good on the Anatolian Side either. The D-100 highway experiences congestion from Tuzla all the way to the entrance of the Avrasya Tunnel. Heavy traffic is occurring on the TEM Motorway along the route starting from Sancaktepe to Ataşehir and Üsküdar. Vehicles are moving slowly towards the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, making the morning traffic even more unbearable. Additionally, traffic disruptions are reported on the Şile Motorway between Altunizade and Ümraniye.
In Istanbul, there is also noticeable congestion in public transportation. Especially, the crowded transfer points for metro, metrobüs, and bus lines are causing passengers to wait. Passengers waiting at metrobüs stops are having difficulty boarding vehicles. According to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Traffic Density map, the traffic situation across the city reached 90% on the Anatolian Side and 89% on the European Side as of 08:30, putting drivers in a difficult position.
