Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) published regional results for household consumption expenditures for the year 2024. According to the research data, 24.9% of the total household consumption expenditures in Turkey took place in the Istanbul (TR1) region. The Ege region follows with 15.0% and the Mediterranean region with 12.1%.
Istanbul has the highest share in every type of expenditure, especially with 37.8% of education service expenditures, 31.5% of expenditures on restaurants and accommodation services, and 27.8% of housing and rental expenditures occurring in this region.
The Ege region (TR3), which ranks second in terms of household consumption expenditures, accounted for 18.2% of expenditures on alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, 16.1% on furniture and household goods, 15.9% on health expenditures, and 15.6% on restaurant and accommodation services.
When evaluating all level 1 IBBS regions, the region allocating the highest share to housing and rental expenditures is Istanbul with 27.3%, while the lowest share belongs to the Northeast Anatolia (TRA) region at 20.1%.
Household consumption data show that the region with the highest expenditures on food and non-alcoholic beverages is the Middle East Anatolia (TRB) with 30.2%. In Istanbul, this related expenditure rate is only 15.9%.
According to research results, the highest share of household consumption expenditures in Turkey comes from 24.9% in Istanbul (TR1), followed by 8.3% in Ankara and 6.4% in Izmir regions.
On the other hand, the regions with the lowest shares in household consumption expenditures are 0.6% with Kastamonu, Çankırı, and Sinop (TR82) and 0.7% with Ağrı, Kars, Iğdır, and Ardahan (TRA2).
