Speaking at the OSB Twin Transformation Meetings event held in Istanbul, İş Bankası General Manager Hakan Aran emphasized the need for a profound transformation in Turkey's economic program. Aran stated that it is important to focus not only on analyzing the current situation but also on solution proposals.
Aran expressed that facilitating access to finance would provide the opportunity to shift towards value-added production, comparing the current economic process to a harsh winter. He cautioned that “The wolf endures the winter but does not forget the frost it has faced,” highlighting the importance of not forgetting the negative experiences of the past during this difficult period.
Touching upon the need to reevaluate the purposes of credit usage during past periods of abundant money, Aran described the ease of access to finance as a "halftime," suggesting that this opportunity serves as a good time for restructuring. He emphasized that increasing capacity based on rising demand carries risks.
Aran, who believes that achieving a value-added structure would grant pricing power in the trade world, stated that the era of competing with cheap labor in Turkey has come to an end. Providing examples from the textile sector, he mentioned that competing at minimum wage levels against countries like Egypt would not be feasible. He argued that Turkey's new model should be based on value-added production.
Finally, Aran announced that a special project that would inspire this transformation process has been completed and shared the project's closing report with the participants. He called on all stakeholders to unite around Turkey’s vision of efficient and valuable production by emphasizing the correct use of technology and finance.
