Hoboken, New Jersey — Carl Mazzanti, President and Co-Founder of eMazzanti Technologies, addressed how firms can utilize cybersecurity solutions to protect themselves, their clients' funds, and sensitive information during a Continuing Legal Education session organized by LEAP Legal Software, following advanced Business Email Compromise (BEC) alerts targeting legal firms from the FBI.
Mazzanti emphasized the increasing sophistication of cybercriminals targeting law firms. According to the FBI, Business Email Compromise is one of the most common and financially devastating online crimes, he warned. “A successful BEC or other attack can cause serious damage not only to your firm’s finances but also to its reputation. Class action lawsuits have been filed against firms for not taking adequate precautions.”
All law firms, large and small, manage significant amounts of personally identifiable information (PII) and other sensitive data; therefore, malicious actors are targeting your firm, he added. “State-sponsored entities and other cybercriminals have enhanced their attacks with Artificial Intelligence (AI). For this reason, working with an experienced Managed Service Provider that follows up-to-date cybersecurity regulations and best practices is critical.”
During the webinar, Mazzanti discussed various strategies to combat email fraud. “AI is like a remedy against inflation, and technology can significantly reduce your firm’s vulnerability to cyberattacks,” he explained. eMazzanti also highlighted the importance of training employees to recognize red flags indicating fraud, scams, and other attacks.
Some of the best practices emphasized by Mazzanti include:
Mazzanti stated, “By being vigilant and adopting advanced cybersecurity measures, law firms can protect their clients and their reputation from the ever-evolving threats of cybercrime.” He concluded, “Together, we can build a safer digital environment for all.”
