Saudi Arabia's national carrier Saudia Group has announced a strategic agreement with GE Aerospace. Under this agreement, Saudia will equip the 39 Boeing 787-9 and Boeing 787-10 aircraft received in 2023 with GEnx-1B engines. The agreement includes not only the supply of engines but also a multi-year maintenance, repair, and overhaul program.
This collaboration also encompasses a series of capability development initiatives aimed at enhancing Saudi Arabia's aviation expertise through Saudia Technic. This will facilitate the training of local aviation experts through technical education and knowledge transfer.
Saudia Group CEO Ibrahim Al-Omar stated, “This strategic partnership is transforming the group’s long-haul flight capability and expanding our air connectivity. Additionally, it will accelerate the localization of high-tech aircraft expertise in our country.”
GE Aerospace Chairman and CEO H. Lawrence Culp, Jr. remarked, “We are honored to have the opportunity to support Saudia Group's growth. The GEnx engines will provide reliability, efficiency, and durability to power the airline's expanded fleet of aircraft.”
The GEnx engine family is engineered with advanced materials and state-of-the-art technology. Since 2011, GEnx engines have logged over 70 million flight hours and power two-thirds of the 787 aircraft globally.
GE Aerospace has been collaborating with the Saudi Arabian aviation sector for over 40 years and is supporting the development of Vision 2030. Currently, it supports Saudi Arabia's four major commercial airlines and the largest F110 fleet outside the United States.
Saudia Group is pursuing a long-term strategy focused on expanding its fleet, opening new international routes, and increasing guest capacity in global markets. These efforts support the Saudi Aviation Strategy and aim to create a worldwide aviation sector that strengthens Saudi Arabia's global connectivity.
