Google (GOOGL) has signed a significant electricity purchase agreement for a 30-megawatt solar power plant in the Gurun region of Kedah, Malaysia. This project is being launched to support the use of clean energy and enhance environmental sustainability.
The aforementioned solar power plant is being developed by a consortium led by Shizen Energy's Malaysian subsidiary. This project has a total capacity of 29.99 MW AC and is expected to reach financial closure on November 3, 2025, attracting the interest of investors. The solar energy facility aims to become commercially operational in 2027.
The construction, development, and operation of the plant are undertaken by a consortium called SM01 Sdn. Bhd. The consortium's structure features Shizen Malaysia holding a 49% stake, Solarvest holding 33%, and HSS holding 18%, aiming to create a pattern that combines the infrastructure and experience of the participating companies for more efficient energy production.
Solar energy projects play a significant role in the global energy transition while also helping to minimize environmental impacts. Google's move is seen as part of its commitments in the renewable energy sector.
