Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL), in line with the decisions of the Berlin court, is preparing to pay a total of 573 million dollars (approximately 666 million dollars) in compensation to two local price comparison websites. This decision is directly related to the ongoing antitrust proceedings in the European Union.

The court ruled that Google harmed local competitors by prioritizing its own shopping results in search results for years. One of the prominent local players, Idealo, which is operated by Axel Springer, received the bulk of the award: 374 million dollars plus 91 million dollars in interest. Although it is below the initial 3.3 billion dollar claim, it is still seen as a significant victory.

A smaller competitor, Producto GmbH, obtained 89.7 million dollars plus 17.7 million dollars in interest. While Google is pleased with the court's dismissal of most claims, it stated that it disagrees with the overall ruling and plans to appeal.

These lawsuits are part of a series of follow-up cases triggered after the European Union fined Google 2.4 billion dollars in 2017 for abusing its search dominance. Nonetheless, Idealo expressed that it will not be satisfied with the compensation it received and intends to appeal for a larger amount.
