Dubai-based airline flydubai has placed a new order for 75 new aircraft from the Boeing 737 MAX series as part of a recent agreement. This agreement represents flydubai’s fourth acquisition of the 737 MAX and also includes options for an additional 75 aircraft.
This new order will enable flydubai to modernize its fleet and expand its growing network. The airline currently serves over 135 destinations thanks to the fuel efficiency, range, and reliability of the 737 MAX. Key cities in its renewed network include Lasi, Nairobi, and Riga.
With the new agreement, flydubai aims to gain advantages by utilizing the 737-8, 737-9, and 737-10 models that offer flexibility and compatible features provided by the 737 MAX family, in accordance with its growing business model.
flydubai Chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum expressed happiness in announcing the innovative aircraft ordering agreement and noted that proactive fleet planning is essential to meet increasing travel demands in the future. “The agreement we announced today will be a decisive factor in achieving sustainable growth targets for our industry,” he stated.
Currently, flydubai operates 96 Boeing 737 aircraft. With this new agreement, alongside previous orders, it will increase its total orders in the 737 MAX series. Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope remarked that flydubai is one of the operators of the 737 MAX and this fourth order reflects the leading value and versatility of the 737 MAX in the market.
The 737 MAX family offers better fuel efficiency, improved environmental performance, and enhanced passenger comfort compared to existing aircraft. This family has been optimized with consideration of the growth potential in the Middle East and offers greater range and larger passenger capacity compared to previous 737 models.
In 2023, flydubai took a historic step by ordering 30 787 Dreamliner wide-body aircraft. According to Boeing's forecasts, the single-aisle fleet in the Middle East is expected to double over the next 20 years, increasing connectivity within the region and much of Europe.
