Dubai-based airline flydubai has announced a new agreement with Boeing for the purchase of 75 new aircraft from the 737 MAX series. This agreement represents flydubai's fourth acquisition of the 737 MAX and also includes options for an additional 75 aircraft.
This new order will enable flydubai to modernize its fleet and expand its growing network. The airline currently serves over 135 destinations thanks to the fuel efficiency, range, and reliability of the 737 MAX. Key cities in its renewed network include Lasi, Nairobi, and Riga.
With the new agreement, flydubai aims to gain advantages by using the 737-8, 737-9, and 737-10 models that offer flexibility and compatible features in alignment with its growing business model.
Flydubai Chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum expressed his happiness at announcing this innovative aircraft purchase agreement and emphasized the importance of proactive fleet planning to meet increasing travel demands. “The agreement we are announcing today will be a decisive factor in achieving the sustainable growth goals of our industry,” he stated.
Currently, flydubai operates 96 Boeing 737 aircraft. This new agreement, when completed along with previous orders, will increase the total orders in the 737 MAX series. Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope noted that flydubai's position as one of the 737 MAX operators reflects the leading value and versatility of the 737 MAX in the market.
The 737 MAX family offers better fuel efficiency, improved environmental performance, and enhanced passenger comfort compared to existing aircraft. This family has been optimized considering the growth potential in the Middle East and offers greater range and larger passenger capacity compared to previous 737 models.
In 2023, flydubai made a historic move by ordering 30 787 Dreamliner wide-body aircraft. According to forecasts by Boeing, the single-aisle fleet in the Middle East is expected to double in the next 20 years, which will enhance connectivity within the region and across much of Europe.
