Retirees Demand a Flat Salary Increase: Economic Difficulties Are Increasing

Important Statement from TÜED

The Founding Board of the All Retirees Association (TÜED) gathered in Ankara to address important demands of retirees. The association came together over the decreasing living standards of retirees, emphasizing that the current economic program's struggle against inflation is insufficient.

Inflation Issues and Demand for Raises

In the press release published after the meeting, it was noted that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) fails to align with market prices, and this situation affects the raises given to retiree pensions. It was stated that the social security system needs to be strengthened to protect retirement law:

"It is essential that retiree pensions are recalculated according to the rules of adjustment and that pensions sufficient for a dignified life are paid. The reasons necessitating the demand for a general raise include pensions that fall below the hunger threshold and the minimum wage. When discussing the 2026 budget, necessary resources should be allocated considering the living costs of our retirees."

Changes in the Monthly Calculation System

The statement also brought up the necessary changes to the retiree monthly calculation system:

"The current monthly calculation system and methods of increase should be improved. Thus, raises for retiree pensions should be determined in accordance with the updating coefficient to ensure there are no year-on-year differences in retiree pensions. Additionally, determining the lower limit for the monthly allocation ratio at 70% is important to prevent the base pensions of retirees from decreasing. Due to the adverse effects of indirect taxes on retiree pensions, the tax refund rate should be reorganized to 10%."
