Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that artificial intelligence could become smarter than humans in five years given the current pace of advancement. In a speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting, Musk highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence and robotics technologies.
Musk emphasized that the widespread adoption of free artificial intelligence and robotics technologies would trigger a unique growth in the global economy. He expressed his vision of a future where these robots would meet human needs and that there would be more robots than humans.
Musk stated that the biggest barrier to the development of artificial intelligence is energy, noting that while the production speed of artificial intelligence chips is increasing, the rise in online electricity purchases has remained at around 3-4%.
Musk cited the increase in China's solar energy capacity as an example, adding that high tariffs in the U.S. are driving up the cost of solar energy.
Musk provided information about Optimus robots performing simple tasks in Tesla factories. He emphasized that the sale of humanoid robots to the public could begin by the end of next year.
Additionally, he stated that Tesla's Robotaxi service is expected to expand across the U.S. by the end of this year and aims to obtain autonomous driving approval in Europe and China.
Musk expressed his hope that, as the speed of progress indicates, artificial intelligence could surpass humans by the end of this year or, at the latest, the beginning of next year.
