The General Directorate of Forestry (OGM), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has increased the number of ecotourism areas to 136 as of November. This development presents an important opportunity for rural development and the national economy. Ecotourism refers to tourism activities that are in harmony with nature and sustainable, and the activities carried out in this area have the potential to contribute approximately 2 billion lira annually.
Ecotourism is not only a way to explore natural beauties but also creates significant opportunities to strengthen local economies. According to information from OGM, Turkey's potential in this area is receiving considerable interest at both national and international levels. The increase in this interest opens the door for more support for ecotourism and new investments.
Ecotourism activities play a critical role in the development of rural areas. This approach, which is based on principles of nature conservation, helps the economic development of local communities while also promoting environmental sustainability. Such activities provide economic benefits in various areas, including agriculture, the promotion of local products, and the offering of cultural experiences.
Moreover, the increasing trend of making tourism activities environmentally friendly contributes to Turkey's prominence as an ecotourism destination on the international stage. The interest of domestic and foreign tourists in the country’s ecosystem and natural heritage lays the groundwork for new ecotourism projects in rural areas.
In conclusion, the ecotourism areas developed by OGM contribute significantly to both the increase in the income level of local communities and the protection of our ecosystem. This process will affect not only the current economic situation but also future financial sustainability.
