Today, the AI development platform Cursor announced the successful closure of its Series D funding round. This round raised $2.3 billion, achieving a post-money valuation of $29.3 billion. The significant funding includes continued support from existing investors Thrive, a16z, Accel, and DST, as well as participation from new investors Coatue, NVIDIA, and Google.
This capital increase will enable Cursor to make substantial investments in technical research, product development, and the training of its new model, the Composer agentic coding model. It will also support team expansion at Cursor’s offices in San Francisco and New York City.
Cursor’s co-founder and CEO, Michael Truell, stated, “Coding will be the greatest driver of global productivity over the next decade, and we are here to accelerate that progress.” He added, “This funding allows us to significantly increase our investments in research and product efforts.”
Cursor has rapidly grown, operating with over 250 engineers, researchers, designers, and operators in its new office in San Francisco and New York. The company has generated over $1 billion in annual revenue and serves millions of developers and the most successful engineering organizations worldwide.
Cursor has evolved beyond a standard code editor to become a platform encompassing all processes involved in software development, from writing and reading code to reviewing it. The ability of AI to reduce barriers in coding offers new potential for building software at the highest production quality. Good coding tools free expert developers from mundane tasks, allowing them to make higher-efficiency choices.
This Series D funding marks a new milestone for the company and positions Cursor as a leader in empowering the new software era.
