Cisco has taken a significant step in AI-based translation technology by acquiring EzDub, a Y-Combinator-backed startup that offers real-time translation services. This new technology provides accurate and rapid translations while preserving the speaker's original voice.
Cisco will integrate EzDub’s advanced technology into its Cisco Collaboration communication platform, enabling users to benefit from live translations in services like Webex. The financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
Founded in 2023, EzDub was brought to life by Padmanabhan Krishnamurthy, Amrutavarsh Kinagi, and Kareem Nassar. Nassar is a co-founder of the startup and previously worked in Cisco's Speech AI group. The company raised a total of $4.2 million in seed funding, managed by Venture Highway, founded by the former Chief Operating Officer of WhatsApp. Other investors include Replit CEO Amjad Masad and Applied Intuition CEO Qasar Younis.
Cisco Senior Vice President Snorre Kjesbu stated, "The EzDub team will join Cisco Collaboration, working collaboratively with our product, engineering, and go-to-market teams. Together, we will discover new ways to unlock the potential of AI in the collaboration space."
