The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced in a recent statement that it has discovered approximately 100 million tons of new oil reserves in the Bohai Sea in shallow Neogene strata. The newly found oil field has been named China-Huangdao 29-6.
This new discovery is supported by data obtained from a test well drilled to a depth of 1688 meters. It has been reported that the daily production capacity is 2,560 barrels of oil. Additionally, it is forecasted that 370 tons (approximately 8,786 barrels) of oil could be extracted daily from the field. This figure underscores the energy potential of the region.
CNOOC reported last year that it also discovered 100 million tons of crude oil reserves in the China-Huangdao 27-3 oil field in the same region. These discoveries indicate the ongoing success of the company's offshore drilling operations in the Bohai Sea and the South China Sea.
The discovery of new oil reserves is seen as a significant step towards increasing China’s energy independence. CNOOC’s exploration activities in the region offer strategic opportunities in the management of energy resources. The potential to be effective in the international energy market is further enhanced by such reserves.
