Last week, the trade truce signed between China and the US brought significant changes to agricultural commodity trade. While soybeans are at the forefront, grain products are also included in the scope of the agreement.
According to Bloomberg, China, the world's largest grain importer, is planning to import grain from the US during the December-February period. According to data from the US Department of Agriculture, China has not purchased wheat from the US since October 2022.
The US government reported after a meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping that Beijing would lift tariffs on American wheat. The White House emphasized China's commitment to opening its market to US agricultural products.
China's wheat imports from the US have decreased by one-third in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period in 2024, due to sluggish demand and ample supply. However, the new opportunities provided by the agreement could lead to an increase in exports.
