Chinese Investor Bian Ximing's Strategic Move

Recently, Chinese investor Bian Ximing, who has made significant gains in the gold market, has set his sights on silver. Having earned approximately 3 billion dollars through gold transactions on the Shanghai Futures Exchange in recent years, Ximing is now looking to take advantage of silver price declines.

Short Positions in the Silver Market

Ximing's silver positions carry high risks under current market conditions; however, he has generally managed to secure profits in his portfolio. According to sources, despite fluctuations in silver, Ximing holds about 450 tons of silver and has open positions equivalent to 30,000 contracts. During the price pullbacks experienced last week, Ximing reportedly gained around 2 billion yuan, although this has not yet been realized.

Profit Management in Volatile Markets

It is known that the investor had to close some of his trades at a loss due to the volatility in silver. Nevertheless, considering previous losses, Ximing’s net profit is estimated to be around 1 billion yuan. Today, the continuous decline in silver prices is solidifying the profits from his current positions.

Historical Increase in Short Positions

In the last week of January, data revealed through Zhongcai Futures Co., where Ximing executes his trades, shows a significant increase in short positions in silver. Records from the Shanghai Futures Exchange indicate that Zhongcai's short positions in silver had risen to about 18,000 lots on January 28, and by January 30, this figure had increased to 28,000 lots. Although the identities of individual investors are not disclosed, there is information suggesting that accounts managed by Ximing constitute a significant portion of the institution's precious metal positions.
