Deposit Decline in Turkey's Banking Sector

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) has released its weekly monetary and banking statistics. As of October 10, 2023, the total deposits in the banking sector decreased by 92 billion 487 million 785 thousand lira, reaching 25 trillion 802 billion 684 million 530 thousand lira. The total deposit level was 25 trillion 895 billion 172 million 315 thousand lira the previous week.

Changes in Deposit Distribution

During the same period, deposits in Turkish Lira (TL) decreased by 0.8%, dropping to 13 trillion 967 billion 90 million 447 thousand lira. On the other hand, deposits in foreign currency (YP) increased by 1.8%, reaching 8 trillion 672 billion 574 million 273 thousand lira. The total YP deposits in the banks amounted to 246 billion 580 million dollars, of which 208 billion 589 million dollars were held in accounts of residents in Turkey.

Increase in Consumer Loans of Domestic Residents

The consumer loans of domestic residents in the banking sector increased by 0.5% last week, reaching 5 trillion 158 billion 191 million 482 thousand lira. The distribution of these loans is as follows:
- Housing loans: 629 billion 992 million 475 thousand lira
- Vehicle loans: 49 billion 735 million 716 thousand lira
- Personal loans: 1 trillion 933 billion 233 million 152 thousand lira
- Individual credit cards: 2 trillion 545 billion 230 million 139 thousand lira

Increase in Credit Volume

As of October 10, 2023, the total credit volume in the banking sector, including the CBRT, increased by 43 billion 243 million 846 thousand lira, reaching 20 trillion 649 billion 490 million 121 thousand lira.
