Fishermen Raise Their Voices Against Hamsi Prices

Fishermen operating in Erdek district of Balıkesir have organized an interesting event to protest the recent increase in anchovy prices. The price of anchovy per kilogram, which has risen to 200 TL at fish stalls, has drawn the reaction of the tradesmen. While noting that anchovy boxes are being sold in the range of 200-300 TL, they also distributed free anchovies to draw attention to the difficulties faced by consumers.

The protest event not only shows that the prices of anchovies have exceeded their real value but also highlights how this increase burdens the citizens’ wallets. Fishermen stated that, with the slogan 'let the public eat cheap fish', it is necessary for seafood to become more accessible for the public.
