Today, there was a general decline in European stock markets, while all indices except for Germany's DAX 40 lost value. Geopolitical risks and political developments in France triggered the selling trend in the markets.

European Stock Markets End the Day with a Decline Excluding Germany

Today, European stock markets were under general selling pressure, with all major indices closing in the red except for Germany's DAX 40. The continent's benchmark index, Stoxx Europe 600, fell by 0.4% to 570.24 points, presenting a worrisome picture among investors.

Performance Evaluation by Country

In the UK, the FTSE 100 index declined by 0.13% to 9,479.14 points, while in France, the CAC 40 index lost 1.36% to see a level of 7,971.78 points. Italy's FTSE MIB 30 index decreased by 0.26%, closing at 43,146.13 points. Meanwhile, Germany's DAX 40 remained unchanged during the day, closing at 24,378.29 points.

Fluctuations in the Euro/Dollar Exchange Rate

In the currency markets, the Euro/dollar exchange rate experienced a 0.247% decline, trading at around 1.171 as of 20:02 Turkey Time. This situation is assessed as a reflection of the increasing uncertainties in the Eurozone.

Impact of Geopolitical Risks

The adjustments in European stock markets are linked to geopolitical developments, particularly the political instability occurring in France. Following the François Bayrou government's failure to gain a confidence vote from the National Assembly, the newly appointed Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu, who took office on September 9, resigned shortly after forming his new government, creating a negative impact in the markets. This situation shook investors' confidence and led to a selling trend.

Highlighted Company Performances

Another noteworthy development today was the 15.9% decline in shares of the multinational packaging and paper producer Mondi due to weak financial results for the third quarter. French-based banks Societe Generale and Credit Agricole also closed the day with losses, while shares of the construction sector company Compagnie de Saint-Gobain decreased by 3.4%.
