In the parliamentary elections held in Argentina, the party La Libertad Avanza (Advancing Freedom) led by President Javier Milei achieved a significant victory. According to the initial results, with 96% of the votes counted, Milei's party received 39% of the votes, emerging as the winner of the election.

The Peronist opposition party Fuerza Patria (Homeland Force) came in second with 29.4% of the votes. Milei’s party also excelled in strategic regions such as Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Santa Fe, and Mendoza.

Significant Results and Power Advantage

The opposition, which was successful in the provincial elections held on September 7, 2023, in Buenos Aires, faced an unexpected defeat this time. This result provides a significant advantage for the ruling party in implementing its reform projects and nullifying the opposition's intervention attempts. Although La Libertad Avanza won 6 out of the 8 regions they competed in the Senate, they have yet to achieve the one-third majority needed to implement austerity policies.

Low Voter Turnout

The voter turnout rate was recorded at 67.85%, marking the lowest value since Argentina's return to democracy in 1983.

After the election results, Milei emphasized in a speech at the party headquarters in Buenos Aires that the new Congress is crucial for changing the country's direction. He stated, “Today is a historic day for Argentina. Over the next two years, we need to advance on the reform path we have initiated.”

According to local media, the ruling party's victory in the Chamber of Deputies allows Milei to advance his reform and economic projects more easily. However, the lack of a one-third majority in the Senate poses limitations on the vetoing or blocking of certain laws.
