Amazon (AMZN) faced a major chaos on its digital platforms this morning due to a technical issue. Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced a failure in its primary data center in Northern Virginia, resulting in connectivity problems for many websites. Users encountered prolonged outages on platforms such as Snapchat, Reddit, Disney+, and Lyft.
The issue, which began late at night, stemmed from a malfunction in the DynamoDB database service. This system helps keep many applications online. Due to the issue, users encountered error messages on several platforms. In fact, some Amazon warehouse employees were forced to halt their shifts due to the internal systems being down.
In the later hours of the morning, AWS engineers announced that they had resolved the issue. Amazon confirmed that the situation was not a cyber attack, but rather a technical error in resolving web addresses. After the problem was resolved, Amazon's shares did not show much change.
